2½" gauge B1

2 1/2 inch gauge live steam locomotive and tender, London and North Eastern Railway Thompson B1. Constructed to Martin Evans' "Springbok" design for 5 inch gauge, but built half size. Fully sprung suspension, 2 cylinders with piston valves, fully working Walschaert's valve gear, mechanical lubricator. Reversing handle, regulator, pressure and water level gauges, draincock control etc. in cab. Working steam brakes, whistle. Coal fired with grate and ashpan under firebox. Correct locomotive type firetube boiler with superheater and twin safety valves. No boiler paperwork - I have attempted to carry out a hydraulic test but leaks through the regulator and other boiler fittings prevented this. However the boiler appears sound with no leaks from the firebox or tubes. Water feed by tender hand pump, loco axle pump and injector. Tender contains water for boiler feed, coalspace, handbrake, water controls, water level gauge, opening toolboxes and firing tools. Loco runs well in both directions under compressed air test.

Handmade by model engineer presumably in the UK - Maker's name and date of construction unknown.

Inherited from close family friend who purchased the loco some years previously. Loco has been on static display only in his ownership and not run. History prior to then unknown.

Length including tender 33 inches (84cm), width 5 inches (12.5cm), height 7 1/2 inches (19cm), weight 35lb (16kg). One tender buffer head and part of the cylinder draincock linkage are missing - Parts not included.

£1500 ono. Locomotive is near Doncaster.
